Hispaniola, Spanish Language School offers Spanish language courses from January to November in Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic.

Why Learn Spanish at the Hispaniola Academia Caribe de Lenguas

Our courses, taught by young, enthusiastic professors trained in the latest teaching techniques, are based on modern methods and professional organization which guarantee fast progress in the shortest possible time. The focus of all courses is the continuous, daily use of Spanish, both in class and during free time. Communication skills and speaking are emphasized. All of our teachers are university students who have completed a special 40-hour training session.

Method

Our teaching method takes full account of modern didactics and is oriented towards the "Foreign Language Concept of the Council of Europe" and oobserving all instructions that the Real Academia de la Lengua reccomends.

Our method accord with the Direct Methods and at school like in the free time spoken language is ephatized: afrom the first day on, at all levels, only Spanish will be spoken.
In the free time we promote integration between students and Dominican people and culture organizing every nights activities where a number of trained Dominican friends are invited.

Teachers

All our teachers are young fellows, with univesitary curriculum and who have been specially trained and regulary upgraded.

Levels of ability


On the first day of the language course, your knowledge of Spanish will be determined by an entry test and an inteview. At the end you will be assigned to one of our 8 general levels:
Book and teaching material

Study material is included in the course price and presented to the students at the beginning of the course and during the class in the form of practical activities and exercises as a natural extension of the didactic book. The school has a library of didactic books, grammar, reading, learning activities, literature (Dominican, Hispanic and Spanish) and some role games taht teachers like individual studenys are allowed to use to improve language acknowledgement. It is not included the dictionary.

Certificate of attendance

At the end of the course all students receive, on request, a Certificate of Attendance
In each single class the attention is direct to the individual and to his/her own capacity of learning trying to improve the one's capacity of concentration and receptivity. Our teacher are particularly trained in mass communication and trasmitting informations process. The mission is to learn as faster as possible.

Standard course

The Standard course is held throughout the year on all 6 levels of ability. Duration : 2 or more week.
Offers classes consisting of maximum 6-8 people, Monday-Friday, from 9.00am to 1.00pm. Each level is the responsibility of 2 teachers and is divided into 2 periods of grammatical input and 2 periods of conversation. Each individual period lasts 50 minutes.

The Intensive Course

In addition to the Standard Course includes 2 extra periods (in the afternoons) of private lessons. This two extra periods gives the opportunity to increase knowledge with practice in speacking and conversing. This course held all year long.

The Personal Course

Personal Course is a language, one-to-one course fully customized. according to the need of the student. Student can decide where, when and how much in a wide range of possibility. You can begin on any working day of the year, at least 1 week, 1 to 8 lessons per day

The Specialized Course

Specilized Course is oriented to those students who have already a good knowledge of Spanish language and desire to improve or study some special aspect or argument. The class is under the responsability of an external teacher but under the supervision of the school staff. It is managed by Dominican well known specialist and profesionals of a determinate argument. To enroll at this course need a good knowledge of Spanish. You can begin on any working day of the year, at least 1 week, 1 to 8 lessons per day. Books and teaching material are included in the price.

Tourism and culture

This course is designed for those students that doesn't want to loose one minute. A general language teacher will be at your disposicion quiete 24h following you in your trip around the island and guideind you to discover the turistic and cultural resources of the whole Republic. To enroll in this course needs to program with the segretary of the shool the entire travel according to your desires. You can begin on any day of the year, at least 1 week. Books and teaching material are included in the price. We ask to reserve one month before.

Business Assistance

Dominican Republic with its free-taxes zones is an opening market and a good opportunity to make business. For those who needs language assistance and translations we organize special services where the teacher guides and support the student between all the situation he/she can meet. Reunion with lawyers, banks, economic personalities, visit to the tax-free zones, and all the activities related with the business the student is going to do. This assistance allows the student to understand clearly what he/she is doing, to safe time, to be oriented in the jungla of posibilities and, of course improve Spanish. Several session of learning and comprehension of Spanish will be organized during the period using part of the free-time and according to a previous, personal schedule.

Leisure

Outside of class, the school's secretary works nonstop to keep students on top of all of the social and cultural events which the city has to offer, including some activities which students can participate in for free. Upon demand, for example, courses in Latin-American Dance or Creole cooking can be arranged, while several pre-organized and impromptu class trips complete a travel-study experience which will surly be unforgettable. The famous allure of Caribbean nights, between salsa and merengue, cuba libres and pina coladas, friendship and adventure, are all waiting for you, and you'll never be faced with the hated question: "What should we do tonight? Among other delights, "Boca Chica," one of the island's most famous beaches, lies just 30 minutes away from the capital by public transportation. In addition, many other special requests for activities not included in our normal program can be organized through our school's secretary.

The Academy organizes a large variety of cultural and leisure activities on a regular basis:
Every night different activities are proposed to the entire crew.
No extra charge for free time activities: only entrance or transportation..
Every week-end we inform the students about a 1or 2 days excursions like Night Tour, Saona Island, the Crocodile Lake, San Juan River in a boat and the mysterious Cri-Cri Lagoon etc..
